Geo-Bachelor BAH 2026 — Your Duty Station Sets the Rate
BAH is based on your duty station ZIP code, not where your family lives. If you geo-bachelor by choice — leaving your family behind when you PCS — your rate does not change to match their location, no matter how expensive it is. The main exceptions: on an unaccompanied or dependent-restricted overseas tour, you're typically paid the with-dependents rate based on your dependents' location; and a Secretarial waiver can authorize dependent-location BAH for documented hardship. One more trap: members assigned government quarters (barracks) generally forfeit BAH unless authorized with-dependents BAH for a family maintained elsewhere. Governing reference: DoD FMR Volume 7A.
