VA Disability Pay Forecast Calculator — 2026 to 2055

A veteran rated 100% with a spouse receives $4,158.17/month in 2026 — $49,898.04 per year, tax-free. If future COLA increases match the 2001–2026 historical average of about 2.6% per year, that payment would grow to roughly $5,240/month by 2035, and the 10-year total would come to about $561,600. This calculator projects your VA disability compensation 5 to 30 years ahead using real 2026 rates and a COLA assumption you control — including a side-by-side what-if at a different rating.

This is a planning estimate, not a promise. Every figure beyond 2026 depends on an assumed COLA that nobody can predict, assumes current law stays exactly as it is, and assumes your rating and dependent status never change. Actual COLA is announced each October based on CPI-W and has ranged from 0% to 8.7% since 2000. Ratings can be increased, reduced, or protected over time. Use this tool to plan ranges — not to count on specific future dollar amounts.

Forecast Your VA Disability Pay

Start from your current combined rating and project forward. The first year uses the actual published 2026 rates; every later year applies your COLA assumption.

Dependent additions apply at 30%+ only. More children, school-age children, or dependent parents add more — see the full 2026 rate tables.

The default is the average of the actual VA COLAs from 2001–2026, computed from the published rate history. It is an assumption, not a prediction — real COLA changes every year.

Scenario B uses the same dependent status, horizon, and COLA assumption. A rating increase in real life would also start on the VA's timeline, not January 1 — this comparison assumes both ratings from the start.

Projected Monthly Pay by Year

Year-by-Year Projection

The 2026 row is the actual published rate (effective December 1, 2025). Every later row is an estimate at your COLA assumption, rounded to the nearest dollar. Real VA rates are set to the cent each year when the actual COLA is applied, so future amounts will differ.

Reminder: This projection assumes current law, a constant assumed COLA, and an unchanged rating and dependent status for the entire horizon. None of those is guaranteed. See current official rates on VA.gov.
